New Home Designs Missing the Mark

The Fall Parade of Homes was recently held in my hometown. This event is hosted by the builder’s association and gives the public the opportunity to tour recently built or sold homes. As I strolled down the streets, I was shocked to find most exteriors of the home’s exteriors painted white. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the clean crisp color of white. But three new homes all in the same shade lacks originality, and it looks like someone hit a sale at the paint store!

One can’t help but wonder “who” lives or will live in some of these homes. The sheer magnitude of mopping and dusting required boggles the mind. Don’t get me wrong; these homes are magnificent. From dreamy kitchens to infinity pools, they look more like small resorts than a home with three screaming toddlers or messy teenagers.

As I toured these massive homes, shuffling from room to room, and ending outdoors on the lanai ( it’s a porch where I come from), one thing was missing…..skylights. Good oldfashioned traditional glass skylights were nowhere to be found. By Golley with a price tag of two to four million dollars, one would think an extra thousand dollars for skylights would have made the budget. But alas, they didn’t.

It seems that skylight installation seems to boggle the minds of some folks. Although the instructions are in the box, installers must read them and there’s trouble! Builders subcontract work and often lack good relationships with specialty contractors. They can rely on the same framing crews, HVAC, electricians, and roofers. But installing skylights is not for just anyone.

Luckily, Sun4Light is here to help. Our goal is to educate folks. We help homeowners, roofers, and contractors determine the best product for their application. As the only VELUX Dealer-Installer in the area, our internal team of installers can help with technical applications as well as product information. We are a turnkey company and take great pride in helping homeowners beautifully brighten their homes!
