Choosing a high-quality skylight is important. Choosing an experienced installer is just as important.
A skylight is not simply a window placed into a roof. Proper installation requires careful attention to the roof system, flashing, waterproofing, drainage, interior finishing, and manufacturer’s installation requirements.
At Sun4Light, Inc., we understand that professional installation is an essential part of a successful skylight project.
Your Roof Is a System
Your roof is designed to keep water outside your home. Any time you introduce a new opening into that system, proper installation becomes critical.
A skylight must be integrated correctly with the surrounding roofing materials and flashing system.
Proper Flashing Matters
Flashing helps direct water away from the skylight and surrounding roof area. Incorrectly installed flashing can create opportunities for water intrusion.
An experienced installer understands how the skylight and flashing system should work with the existing roof.
Every Home Is Different
Roof pitch, roofing material, attic configuration, framing, ceiling construction, and interior finishes can all affect a skylight installation.
Experienced professionals know how to evaluate these conditions before installation begins.
Installation Is About More Than Putting the Product in Place
A quality installation should include careful planning from the beginning.
This can include:
- Evaluating the proposed location
- Assessing roof and ceiling conditions
- Selecting the appropriate product
- Following manufacturer installation requirements
- Properly integrating flashing
- Protecting the surrounding roof system
- Completing the interior finish appropriately
